Vote Today!

As the Joey Zone is fond of saying, “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” If you don’t work for change, you have no right to disparage the way things are. Vote!

Then complain all you want.

I’ll just be glad not to hear the names Gillibrand and Sweeney on a daily basis. But New York does not have a corner on the market for vitriol. If we had Comedy Central, we’d be watching the Daily Show/Colbert Report live tonight, but alas, we have scaled back to bare bones cable+modem. Instead, I’ll be preparing for teaching Wednesday (as usual).

Off to vote in a few minutes —

  1. Done! And only two machines (yes, we’re in a small town). Good ol’ paper ballots, too. Here’s a novelty: the last few years in Tejas we were always frustrated by the lack of labels on ballots. You go to the machine and it just has names — no indication of party. Ads work then; if you can’t recall which is the one you don’t want to vote for (sometimes it comes down to that) unless you feel a lot more than a mild antipathy, the more familiar name may be the wrong one! Here everything is labeled clearly — so even if there is a small race that you haven’t (cough) informed yourself upon, you can at least avoid voting for someone whose party is reprehensible to you.Dangit — no stickers! I guess my smug pride will have to speak for itself. I voted!

  2. I voted, too! Fortunately, with regular voting machines, no DIE!bold machines…..there were far too few people voting this morning. No labels in Tejas, huh? There were early reports of certain areas in the country (Ohio, Florida) having to resort to apper ballots because the machines didn’t work or the volunteers didn’t know how to use them….
