Don’t Turn Your Back on a Chicken

IMG_2172Okay, so I was going in to feed and water the chickens this morning. I’d actually poured out all the water and set the watering can down on the threshold to the barn while I checked for eggs. I’m always afraid I’ll break the eggs, so I thought I’d set the one egg I found down next to the watering can so it would be safe and I wouldn’t forget it. Then I walked down to open up the door to get a scoop of chicken feed. It comes in big pellets. Before I’d gone two steps a handful of chickens darted right to the egg and pecked it apart and started eating it! They practically swarmed over that lone egg. Not just cannibals but eager cannibals.

Wow.

And they’d seemed so sweet…
