How to describe the phantasmagoria of experiences that was Occulture? It may take a couple posts. Long story short: I’m really glad I went. I was very happy with the responses to my talk and met lots of people who were excited to talk all things Leonora Carrington. And yes, the good news is my talk will eventually appear on the Occulture YouTube channel. Plus Susan Wands shared a photo of my presentation (Thanks!) so you can see me with a slide of Carrington’s tarot cards.

I have a whole lot to post about Berlin and the art and artefacts I saw there — and the joy of 24/7 cheap public transportation! It’s a bit overwhelming to try to go back and cover everything I was up to in the latter half of October, but if I break it down it will be manageable (she lies to herself). And Occult Humanities too, and the art in NYC before that started…
Occulture is an immersive conference, with events going on all day and most of the night. I was not there for much of the all night part but I must admit it looked like a lot of fun. From the first opening ritual it was engaging. The venue was recently used for a rave and I can see it. So not always the most cosy of locations, but there were so many things going on, art everywhere, and great flavourful food and drink available so you didn’t have to go out if you didn’t want to — but thanks Heather and Susan for a lovely meal out. The hardworking crew behind the scenes seemed to whirl non-stop making sure all was running smoothly. I offer a special thanks to Mahdi for really making me feel welcomed right from the start.
Here are a few photos to give you a slice of the experience:

Hilma’s Ghost popped up again, too; they had been at Occult Humanities (more on that later) and Stephanie and I finally got down the right subway entrance at 42nd Street to see their mosaic. It deserves a post of its own but here’s a teaser: Gorgeous!!
