Who is the Claverack Giant?
I am happy to reveal that I have received a CREATE Artist Grant for 2023 for a digital media art project ‘The Claverack Giant’ which is inspired by local folklore, archeology, a little fanaticism, poetry, and a good dollop of mystery. From my application:
Did giants roam the Hudson Valley once upon a time? When folklore meets fake news, how will history remember the players? The Claverack Giant will be a digital media project encompassing text, visual images, audio and video to bring to life this ancient artefact and its popular reception both to amuse and inform.

Obviously, there is a lot more to come very soon. I will be working on this all year including collaborative bits with other artists and with local folks whom I hope to persuade to take part. There will be some small events over the next few months, but hopefully a big one this fall. More to come — including the new website for it! I am incredibly grateful to CREATE who support local art and artists!
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by CREATE Council on the Arts.
