Glaswegian France-Lise McGurn has filled the Dundee Contemporary Arts with a big, colourful exhibition that hums with energy and an infectious sense of playfulness. It masks slightly the serious explorations of women’s depictions in art and culture, but that’s part of the point. Lure you in, make you think. There’s such a quiet confidence in her work. She wields pop culture with a casual touch, underscoring absurdity playfully and leaving the viewer to make their own decisions whether it’s her interaction with the Looking for Mr Goodbar poster or the repurposed promotional prop legs in Head in a bin. She obviously made her living space art, which inspired me to do more of that. Loved the tiny chairs. Go wander around the exhibit and let it fill your eyes.
