The Women of The Fall Weekender

The Women of The Fall Weekender is a two-day celebration bringing together artists who played with The Fall alongside special guest artists from the wider independent music community for a programme of live music, film, conversation and collaboration.
Taking place in South Manchester across two venues on Saturday 5 September at The Carlton Club, Whalley Range and Sunday 6 September at The Kamera Ballroom, Chorlton, the weekend features the premiere of a specially commissioned Women of The Fall film by filmmaker Megan Brierley with artwork for the event especially created for the weekend by artist Suzanne Smith.
Saturday’s programme also includes a live performance from Poppycock, featuring original Fall keyboard player Una Baines, followed by The Fallen Women, the all-female Fall karaoke band, joined by a series of special guest vocalists performing songs from The Fall. The evening concludes with DJ sets.
Guest artists appearing include Erin from Loose Articles/Randal Vandal, Glimmerpit, LIINES, Nico Harmony, Miki Berenyi, Red Stains, Phoebe Green and Carrie Lawson.Sunday offers a chance to hear directly from some of the musicians involved, with an in-conversation with Una Baines, Marcia Schofield, Kate Themen, and a special guest interviewer Maxine Peake, an open collaborative jam session, and special guest performances with Red Stains and Randal Vandal.
Women and non-binary artists have played a vital role in shaping Manchester’s musical heritage, but their contribution doesn’t always receive the recognition it deserves. The Women of The Fall Weekender celebrates the remarkable musicians, songwriters and artists who were an integral part of The Fall while bringing together and celebrating women from across generations of the independent music community.
I soooooo wish I could attend this. This is the element that was missing from The Fall: Futures & Past (which I enjoyed very much & will be writing up, soon!): the women! The Fall was filled with amazing women, whose influence has been too often reduced to comments about Eleni’s handbag or Brix’s fashion sense. This event will highlight all of the women — and showcase where they’ve come since. If you have any chance to attend go! And then tell me all about it 😭
