Vicarious Tarot

There’s still a little over a week to see “Tarot! Renaissance Symbols, Modern Visions” at the Morgan Library in NYC; if you can get there, I strongly recommend that you do if you have even a marginal interest in tarot. It’s a fantastic exhibition with both the original fifteenth century cards from the Visconti-Sforza deck and other early treasures, as well as a broad swathe of modern takes on the tarot from the usual suspects Pamela Colman Smith and Lady Frieda Harris, as well as Betye and Alison Saar, Niki de Saint Phalle, Marjorie Cameron and yes, of course! Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, and Ithell Colquhoun and other surrealists.

If you can’t get there, I’ll be writing it up — and Milan! — soon, but in the meantime this video recorded earlier in the run. Alas, Susan Aberth could not be there but Esther Levy stepped in for her.
