#DressDreamsDesire @ FIT

After the 9 @ Nagas, we strolled down to the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology — actually we had a very good lunch first at Kame Ramen. Then we headed over for Dress, Dreams & Desire curated by Dr Valerie Steele, who is also director of the Museum. I love art you can wear! Even if it’s not mostly made for people like me, I am endlessly fascinated how people project themselves onto the world through their clothes. As Dr Steele writes:

Fashion is a primary lens through which we see ourselves—and how others see us. Far from being superficial, fashion can be regarded as a ‘deep surface’ that communicates our unconscious desires and anxieties, with none of us fully aware of the messages we send.

SOOOOOOooooo many photos but I will give you a taste. It’s on through the first week in January, so if you can get there, I do recommend it. There’s so much that can be packed into a relatively small space without feeling like things are too chockablock. And yet it’s bursting with eye-searing splendour so well worth taking your time.
