Elgin Kirk Sessions 1596

19 January 1596: Walter Hay, a goldsmith, brought up on charges per the Elgin Kirk sessions for playing bowls and golf (obviously an athletic enthusiast) on a Sunday when he should have been attending to the sermons in the kirk. Five pounds and a promise never to do it again. The eldership of the church further declares it falls under their purview to judge and punish slanderers £100 plus of course public repentance for ‘the makeris of coquilanis’ or cockalanes as they are sometimes spelled.

Cockalanes are satires or lampoons. Something all would-be despots hate. Fascists have no sense of humour. Thus we must lampoon them at every opportunity. Welp, (slaps knees) time to subvert fascism.

Also assuming all goes well, a brief southern jaunt—delayed because I’d always rather just stay home in Dundee, but I do have some things to do and people to see. Not quite ‘new moon, new me’ because after all I’m too old and generally content for makeovers of myself. My countries, on the other hand…
