I am delighted to get an acceptance to the next International Society for the Study of Surrealism conference which will be in Glasgow this August. By no means a sure thing as the competition only increases as the world gets more and more surreal! Of course this is a little easier to attend than some of their conferences: I wish I had been able to be in Bogotá.
Kindling Light in a Darkening World: Ritual and Hybridity in the Novels of Leonor Fini and Leonora Carrington
My proposal is connected to the larger project on ritual, magic, and tranformations in the writing of Carrington and Fini (see yesterday’s post!), but the ISSS presentation will focus on the thread of hybridity while the October presentation will be much more focused on forms of ritual. Of course the two are very much intertwined in the wild alchemy of these two amazing artists, but I am so glad to have a little more space to tackle these rich texts which I could doubtless talk for hours on, so it will still be a challenge to keep to my time limits.
This serves as another reminder that doing only the events that truly excite my interest is worthwhile. I don’t get in to all of them, but I have an exciting summer planned!
