In between times: writing up a review and gathering more photo spreads of art, but here’s some of the photos that don’t fit into bigger topics. I always enjoy a wander along the South Bank — unless it’s a bank holiday Monday, I must say. Pullulating with people it’s not enjoyable; it took forty minutes to get a boat up the river from the Tate. I should have given up. Normally my favourite way to travel.

A wandering along the river is always better with a little mudlarking; found four hagstones which was rather good in such a short time. Very boney; probably recent cow bones though washed by the river for some time.

Overwhelmed by the amount of musicals based on films that filled the West End, I decided on a little Shakespeare as a respite; also I could only get a matinee ticket for the next day for a new play at the National. A Comedy of Errors is a fun farce and the Globe makes good use of the groundlings for humour and interactive moments. It was rather cold in London, which I wasn’t entirely prepared for — having left my wrap back in Dundee. It’s been so hot in London so often lately. I kept moving most of the day. Grateful the Globe blocked most of the whipping wind, though not alas the airplanes flying over.
Did you know the Globe is the only place I have ‘trod the boards’? I played Cinna the Poet in a production of Julius Caesar when I was shepherding undergraduates as a grad student. You bet I sat in on the course at the theatre. I learned so much about the practical side of the performances. Also I got to die on the Globe stage. It’s a brag-worthy tale.
I dreamt to-night that I did feast with Caesar,
And things unlucky charge my fantasy:
I have no will to wander forth of doors,
Yet something leads me forth...
