Let me urge you, since there are a few days left, to do what you can to see Conduits of the Unseen: Women Artists Imagine Other Worlds at the Andrew Edlin Gallery just south of Canal [but do avoid Canal at all costs — ugh, the gauntlet of hawkers that fill the pavement!]. To the surprise of no one, Susan Aberth has put together an utterly stunning exhibition of paintings, drawings, and other work that will mesmerise you and fill you with wonder. Familiar names like Leonora Carrington, Leonor Fini, Cameron, Abercrombie, and Emma Kunz appear beside less well known (at least outside esoteric circles) names like Paulina Peavey, Juanita M. Guccione, Adele Watson and so many more. Stephanie and I were so glad we made sure to catch the exhibit. Just astonishing work, but why take my word for it. Here are some delights: as always, click to embiggen.

It took all of my strength not to stroke that stone carved by Emma Kunz. I wanted to take everything home with me. Alas I am no robber baron and I can only enjoy virutally.
Can’t get to NYC in time? There is a virtual tour by James Kalm and there is a wonderful panel discussion with Susan and Laura Whitcomb, author of the first monograph on Peavey, chaired by Robert Cozzolino, whose book Supernatural America was on display in the gallery and I have picked up a copy because it is a treasure trove. Enjoy.
